This New Moon Is So All About You

If you don’t feel worthy of applause, then you ultimately keep it from your life

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of doing an afternoon of readings for a lovely group of people.  One of them was a double Leo, which means there was a strong need for recognition and approval within her.  Of course, there was also a ton of creativity present, but the fact that she hadn’t gotten enough of it out into the world meant that her soul was starving for its time in the spotlight.  All Leo’s need it.  To some, that drive to be front and center can seem too self-serving.  But for Leo, that’s just part of the astrological DNA.  So unless one’s being an asshole about it, there’s no reason to shy away from that desire for attention.  I stressed to her that there was nothing wrong about wanting to be recognized for her gifts and talents.  In fact, for her, it was a must.  The only reason she wasn’t allowing it was because of some subconscious notion that it was wrong to desire a spotlight.  And that’s all wed to self-worth.  Because the truth is, if you don’t feel worthy of applause, then you ultimately keep it from your life.

At the end of my long day, the hostess squeezed my shoulder and said, “You’re really good at this.”  I smiled and deflected it with a comment about how great her and her friends were for being so receptive to the readings.  She proceeded to say it a couple of more times.  “You are really really good at this, Angel.”  After about the third time, something clicked.  It was as if a voice inside said, “Hear her.”  And I did.  I finally heard what she was trying to tell me.  (See, I also have Leo issues.)  In that moment, I connected to my soul’s core and with my whole heart, welcomed her emotional gratitude and recognition of my talent.  I deemed myself worthy of her applause.  Full of warmth, I smiled and said “Thank you.”  I then packed up my things and left her home, feeling so wonderful for the opportunity to share my gifts with others.

Now is the time to shift focus and give yourself the attention you deserve

The Leo New Moon is here, and it wants us to connect with our deeper need to be accepted and loved for who we are and what we have to offer the world around us.  To best understand what our greatest gift is, we must look to the thing that brings us our purest joy.  Now I’m not talking about that bottle of wine you may suck back after a long day of work.  I am talking about that activity or time when pristine, soulful joy rises up and overcomes you.  It’s the specific thing that stimulates that place in your heart where creativity and romance lives.  And it’s where you need to open yourself up to receiving appreciation and respect.

This also means making yourself vulnerable to your personal truth.  Because if you are feeling disrespected or unacknowledged somewhere in your life, that may be Leo showing you that you’re barking up the wrong tree.  Your greatest gift is perhaps just lying dormant or is at least being underutilized.  If that’s the case, then now is the time to shift focus and give yourself the attention you deserve.

Let’s take a closer look at each sign and see how this could be affecting you:

Wine, A Bath, and The New Moon in Cancer

992875_10151444832481371_1677638389_n

Cancer wants us to nurture ourselves so that we can move through our current life situations with a renewed sense of emotional calm and security

In preparing myself to write on this new moon in Cancer, I decided to kick back and relax with a glass of wine and a bath.  My boyfriend, the Aquarius, is traveling in Europe with family, and he was concerned that while home alone, I wasn’t taking care of myself.  So, I lit a candle, threw some bath salts in, paused for a moment to make sure I wasn’t becoming Liberace, and then started a Sia Genius mix on my ITunes.  After sinking in to the lavender scented water and polishing off half a glass of viognier, I started to think on Cancer and what the current energy around it meant for us all.  Cancer is home, family, personal roots, and our emotional foundation.  It’s a warm blanket, tea, and an oatmeal cookie.  Just then, Tori Amos’s A Sorta Fairytale began to waft over the speakers, and I started to sing.  But I only got a verse in before I found myself laughing.  Talk about a full-on Cancer moment.  Here I was, a Cancer moon myself, thinking about the sign while in the same moment basically bathing in the womb of its essence.  I had created a nest of comfort using so many of the things that calm me and bring me home, that I realized I didn’t have to go too far into the mind to feel what it is we all may need during this new moon time.

We must be willing to go deep into our emotional being and feel our way through the labyrinth of life.

Cancer wants us to nurture ourselves so that we can move through our current life situations with a renewed sense of emotional calm and security.  And this is never as easy as it reads on paper, especially when Mercury is in retrograde and going through the same sign.  Our minds are all a bit uncertain and afraid to commit to ideas and actions.  We think we know what we should do next, but we also aren’t sure we feel that it’s the right move to make.  It’s as if we need God to physically manifest in some form and point to the path we should take so we know exactly what to do.  And even then, we may still feel some questioning come in.  That’s the trick when Mercury is a little backwards and gets involved.  It covers up our heart with the sharp swords of mental thought.  Our heart may feel one way, but our internal words question it with doubt.  And if allowed, they can do so until we crumble ourselves in ruin.  We must be willing to go deep into our emotional being and feel our way through the labyrinth of life.  That is the only way to get out and into the truth of our happiness, where real serenity lives.  That is the only way to use this Cancer energy for good so that you can start anew, with confidence.

Choose to move forward and learn from everything you do, the successes and the mistakes

The sign of Cancer is also connected to the past, which at a new moon time can be challenging and rewarding.  This last week, I was talking a client through her chart, and I saw that she was having trouble letting go of choices she had made long ago.  “You cannot judge yourself for the mistakes of your past.”  It resonated.  “You have to forgive yourself”, I told her, “and move forward.”  With Mercury in Cancer, we’re gonna be thinking about the past a bit.  But it is in retrograde right now, so we can take a cue from the planet and turn it the other way.  We must use this energy to look towards the future, and we should use everything that comes up about the past as a reminder for the long-term goals we’ve laid out for ourselves.  We cannot get caught up in “This happened and then this happened” because “this” is happening, with every passing second.  So you can choose to move forward and learn from everything you do, the successes and the mistakes.  For at the end of the road, it is all forward movement.  And right now, there is a lot of activity around abundance and growth that is pushing us towards realizing our bigger dreams.  Manifestation is in the air, so we must take advantage of it.  That is Jupiter, also in Cancer, and they are all pushing that retrograde energy.  So shift it around and make it work for you, not against you.

Let’s take a closer look at each sign and see how this all could be affecting you more directly:

Permission Granted To Be Your Crazy Self

You have to give yourself permission

Last night, I had the pleasure of reading a lovely new client. Being an Aries rising, she had a lot of the current Gemini energy moving through her 3rd House, the house of communication. As we discussed how she could get more deeply in touch with her passions and goals, I found myself using the same phrase over and over. “You have to give yourself permission.” We can have ideas for what we want in life or how we want to spend our time, but then we allow judgment to overcome our every “silly” whim so that we ultimately suppress potential avenues for our truest expression. We don’t give ourselves the permission to explore. And some of us may not even know what it is we’re passionate about yet. Not everyone is born with the idea of what they want to be when they grow up. So if we don’t tell ourselves that it’s okay to pursue every idea, despite what society, family, or what-have-you has taught you to think, then we are barricading ourselves from what could be the path we should walk down in order to actualize our truest self.

With this weekend’s Gemini new moon, we must offer ourselves a new mental vision for our lives. It must be filled with inspiration but also compassion. And we have to make sure that our spirit is involved, or else we will just get steamrolled by our old ways of thinking, which have grown powerful over the years. If we can give ourselves those gifts of clarity and self-love, we will find that we can harness and communicate ideas for the next phase of our lives in a way that is both intuitive and responsible.

Let’s face it, the main reasons that we don’t express ourselves entirely, whether they are ideas for a new line of work, our feelings in a relationship, or how we feel about our bodies, are that we are afraid of complete honesty and don’t want to be held accountable for what we say. We don’t trust ourselves enough to say and do the right thing. This must stop. We must give the man or woman in the mirror the permission to be brave and step firmly into truth, or else we are just auto-piloting our lives. And what the hell good is that?

Become more aware of the words you use in your mind before you speak

As stated, Gemini is all about the mind. But it’s also how we translate the mind. So with this new moon, not only are we geared toward a new mental outlook on ourselves but also on how we communicate it. First, become more aware of the words you use in your mind before you speak. If you can become more conscious with yourself, then you can offer a greater cognizance in your relations with others. And again, as we are looking to approach life with more of a responsible, adult-like spirit, we have to choose our words with that level of maturity. That way, we can take ourselves more seriously and be seen by others in the same way.

Let’s look more closely at each sign and how you can best make use of this weekend’s Gemini new moon:

Do You Love Yourself, or Whisky and Cheetos More?

When it comes to placing value on our selves and our own personal needs, we can all look pretty damn cheap

I was recently giving a reading to someone and we got into a discussion about the second house, which rules all things material and money.  It’s also the house where Taurus usually lives.  As we dug into the state of her financial affairs, I urged her to also think of value and worth in a different way.  Perhaps this time in her life wasn’t about her raking in a pot of gold to then turn into a new house or car.  Or maybe it was.  However, in order for her to actualize that physical wealth, she was going to have to first get into contact with her own sense of internal wealth.  And after chiseling away at that notion, she got it.  She was making money but was unable to hold onto it in a meaningful way, because she wasn’t applying it towards things she personally valued.  Instead, she was putting it towards things that she felt she should have based on other people’s ideas for her life.  And this life isn’t about pleasing others.  It’s about coming into contact with what we inherently treasure, and then materializing that into existence.  This can be hard for a lot of us.  Because when it comes to placing value on our selves and our own personal needs, we can all look pretty damn cheap.

The relationship you have with money is a direct response to your own sense of self worth.  That doesn’t entirely mean that if you’re broke, you hate yourself.  What it does mean is that you have to become more aware of where you place value in your life and whether that is in alignment with the worth you place on yourself.  For instance, you may claim to value your health but then spend money on whisky and Cheetos.  Sure, a splurge is important and we all should have some fun.  But, if your idea of fun is getting drunk and licking that weird yellow dust off your fingers, then your personal values may be a little out of whack.

The Taurus new moon is here to help you hone in on where your sense of personal worth needs some attention

You must take stock of your life and become more vigilant about your choices and the messages they send back to your psyche.  Thankfully, the Taurus new moon is here to help you hone in on where your sense of personal worth needs some attention.  Once you better understand where your focus needs to be, it’s then a perfect time to plant seeds for new growth.  And hopefully, if you play your cards right, the Taurus new moon tree that grows for you will have some money dangling from it.

Taurus is about manifestation.  It’s about turning inspiration into the tangible.  Thus, the Taurus new moon is about sprouting those ideas into living, breathing reality.  And this one is powerful, as it has Mercury (thought, communication) and Mars (action) right behind it, pushing it toward optimal growth.  But again, note that nothing will fruit if you’re not in touch with what you need.  Or you will just have more of what you don’t want blossom, and then you’ll have an abundance of more to complain about in work, at home, etc.  So how in touch are you with what you truly value?  Are your actions in alignment with that?  What is the state of your personal integrity?  Do you need to make it stronger and, if so, how does happen?

Here’s a brief look at each sign, with the hopes of offering you some personal growth and a little realness:

It’s Time To Be the Star of Your Own Show

Are you ready for the spotlight of your soulful awakening?

Like most of you, I am looking for a new beginning.  But what I have realized is that it’s not going to come in the form of a new job, a move, or a lottery ticket.  It is going to come from the inside out, so I must start by shifting how I think and feel about myself.  You see, I have been clinging on to pieces of outdated fiction that have structured my internal story, and I am finally able to see them for just that – stories.  Simply remnants from the young me that are unwilling to be left behind.  Old mentalities.  Wicked fears.  Childhood regrets and insecurities.  I have known of their existence for some time now, but my mind just could not detach.  They created a sense of safety, as they had been all I knew.  So even when I told myself it was time to let them go, it was just the old me creating a moment of self sabotage.  I knew I wouldn’t really be strong enough to detach.  Until now.

Given all the intense astrological business that’s been going on these last few months, I have crafted some new habits for myself.  They are allowing me to get some distance from the outdated thinking that was holding on for dear life.  Sure, there’s always a chance I’ll slip and end up eating a whole chocolate cake to myself, metaphorically speaking.  (Mine would be a carrot cake.)  But I have to believe that a new beginning is possible, one that I can cease and own.  I have to believe in myself.  For only from honest self-belief can one be inspired to birth his or her greatness.

Spring is here and the planets want us to move into action in a big way

The Aries new moon is here to illuminate the essence of our truest potential so that we can bring a soul-felt new beginning into existence for ourselves.  These last couple of months have been a lot of “who am I?” and “What do I need right now?” moments.  Lots of starts that have gotten us closer to our dreams, but then some stops too, which has made it all rather frustrating at times.  What we must realize is that there were some much-needed tweaks to our internal selves that needed to occur before we could manifest our goals.  Now hopefully you have been doing the internal work to get you more in touch with those necessary shifts you must make.  If not, stop reading and get to work.  Or just make this new moon all about initiating a more honest relationship with you.

A new cycle is upon us.  Spring is here and the planets want us to move into action in a big way.  No more daydreaming.  As some would say, it’s time to shit or get off the pot.  Either we are taking responsibility for the soul transformation into our new unique selves that wants to occur, or we are running away, perhaps never to be heard from again.  And you wouldn’t do that, right?

Let this Aries new moon be your opening number

I hear a lot of you feeling this shift – this urge to break out of old patterns (relationships, careers, ways of being) and really bring the real you to light.  Well now is “make it or break it” time.  And I want to see you succeed.  Think of it as if you have been working behind the scenes on the play of your life this whole time, and now it’s time to take center stage.  Are you ready for the spotlight of your soulful awakening?  Is it time to get out there and give it all you got?  Let this Aries new moon be your opening number.

Per usual, here are some more specific thoughts on each sign:

HAPPY NEW MOON IN PISCES – NOW GET IT TOGETHER!

pisces-new-moon1

Push yourself toward a deeper soul connection

Hey Everyone!  Today is the New Moon In Pisces, which basically means that its time to set some imaginative, spirituality-based intentions for the next thirty days.  I, for one, signed up for Deepak Chopra and Oprah’s 21-Day Meditation Challenge, which starts today.  Because that is how I roll.  But you should figure out what you can do to push yourself toward a deeper soul connection.  Whether it’s starting this new lunar month off immersed in one of your favorite pastimes or chanting deeply for hours on end, figure out what you need to do to tap into the source of your highest self.  That way, you can be in the best personal space from which to birth ideas on how to manifest your current dreams.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, there are so many planets passing through the sign of Pisces right now, that all of us are feeling rather raw and naked to the world around us.  We’re all sensitive or more tired than usual – that’s because Pisces governs our inner world, so with a ton of its energy swirling about, we’re being pushed to lead more from our gut-based intuition.  And for some of us, that can be a really obnoxious task.  We want to analyze and understand.  But right now, that’s just trying to swim upstream.

Don’t get left behind when the shift into Aries begins

So. It’s a new moon in Scorpio. What about it?

Ready or not, Scorpio is here.

I woke up this morning to the sound of rain trickling down against the pavement outside my apartment.  As boyfriend, pup, and I stirred against the 6:30 am wake-up call, I found myself drifting amongst the scattered images of my just-concluded dreams.  The visuals were so clear that they almost felt like memories of real instances.  I honestly had to pause and deduce whether I had just walked the dog or not, while he was carrying his own umbrella.  As I let reality sink in and focused my eyes on the still dark room, I felt a haze drift over me.  It was cool and rainy out.  My little family and I were all snuggles under the covers.  I thought, fuck the gym.  I can sleep some more.  The pact that the Aquarius and I had made the night before to shake each other awake seemed void when the snooze button was hit.  Ah, sweet dreams, round two.  Well, all that laziness was put to an end when the man shoved the covers off and jumped out of bed.  In a flash, he was in gym clothes and ready to hit the door.  I didn’t have time to truly reflect on his commitment.  All I could do was respond.  I jumped up too and got the day going.  There wasn’t room for a Libra-like response: somewhat wishy-washy or indecisive.  I could’ve stayed there, scratching the puppy’s belly and pondering the pros and cons of missing my date with the elliptical.  But there was an underlying urge once my feet touched the ground to get the ball rolling.  Ready or not, Scorpio is here.  And for some of us, it’s here just in the nick of time.

So. It’s a new moon in Libra. What about it?

How do we create a life that feels completely balanced and more our own?

When you take a look at how you spend your time, it can be extremely eye-opening.  I’m talking like breaking it down into a percentage.  Most people spend a third of their day working.  Now if you take away about another third of that for sleep, you’re left with one third of the day for yourself.  Now that doesn’t include whatever commuting you need to deal with, as well as the basics of eating, getting ready, etc.  So then how do we spend those few precious hours that are all our own?  Well, there are movies and TV to watch and things to buy and websites to browse and phone calls to make and gym routines to do.  You get my drift.  It’s fucking hard to balance everything out.  My tired eyes are proof.

I believe that one should live a full life, but it’s challenging when you work so hard to get everything you want in and still feel like you haven’t accomplished much at all.  Maybe I’m an over-achiever in that I have a million aspirations.  Or I am just so good at piling a billion things onto my plate that I ultimately just keep myself from giving my all to any one thing.  Well, either way, I’m struggling to find balance in my life.  I do my best to wake up and get in some ‘me time’ before I have to get into the car and drive to the office.  But there is so much I want to do for ‘me’ that a couple of hours before work barely cuts it.  I want to meditate.  I want to write.  I want to read.  I want to work out.  I want to play with and walk the dog.  I want to cuddle with my boyfriend.  It’s so much to try and split into tiny little pockets of time before my long day of work actually begins.  Sometimes, I think that I need to better organize it all, or I need to get up at 5:45 instead of 6:45.  But then my brain will be so slow from the lack of sleep.  What to do?  It’s a major frustration and one that I know I’m not alone in facing.

So what do we do?  How do we create a life for ourselves that feels completely balanced and more our own?

So. It’s a new moon in Leo. What about it?

Be a larger presence in every room.

Many moons ago, when I was first introduced to astrology, someone looked at my chart and said that I had Leo problems.  “What the hell does that mean”, I asked her.  As far as I knew, the last guy I had dated (and by dated, I mean made out with for a week) was named Isaac.  “You have a problem with letting yourself take center stage”, she said.  Now those who have known me long enough can confirm that though I have never been shy, I certainly have found myself being more comfortable in the background.  Well, in the past at least.  Nowadays, I still have some trouble leading with confidence, but I certainly do enjoy the spotlight a bit more.  However, that took some work and time.

See, my Leo problems stemmed from a rocky childhood that forced me toward seclusion.  I grew up in the type of household where I didn’t want to be noticed, so I dug into my bedroom where my imagination and creativity could come alive.  In there, I was a showman.  A diva.  A dancer.  But outside in the world, I didn’t really want to be the one who had all eyes on me.  I guess in some way, I didn’t think that I deserved the attention, so I didn’t strive to attain it.  So at age 23, when a woman I barely knew said that I needed to get comfortable being “center stage”, I listened and made it a focus to blossom in areas where I had been hiding out.  I allowed myself to express my inner feelings more and made an effort to be a larger presence in every room.  It was actually soon after that I started doing professional readings.  And let me tell you, when you’re in charge of giving someone some serious life advice, there’s nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.  The reading may be about them, but their attention is on me and I can’t be afraid.  Thankfully I’m not anymore, or else I would have missed out on the opportunity to share my astrological gifts with others.

It’s okay to demand the spotlight.

So.  A new moon in Cancer.  What about it?

Why have I felt for these past few months like I’ve been asleep?

I recently had dinner with one of my dearest friends from college, The Leo.  The two of us hadn’t seen each other in far too long.  I have been busy with work and being in love and she has been swamped under owning her own business and being impeccably fabulous.  It was so lovely to dig into each other’s lives and do the catch-up dance, especially with someone who truly knows me and vice versa, insecurities and all.  The conversation ended up being quite a bit about me and my confusion around certain areas of my life.  It’s certainly nothing that a good friend and two glasses of wine can’t help.  As we spoke, I found myself building to this crescendo of a statement.  I said, “I just miss the guy that I used to be.  The guy who had confidence and forced people to listen to him.  Who felt like he had something to say and wasn’t afraid to tell everyone.”  Essentially, I felt like I had lost that version of myself I knew in college who had vision and insight to share.  Where was he now?

Well, the Leo picked at her kale salad for a moment and then sipped from her glass of red before making a face.  “But you still are that guy, Angel.  He is still inside of you.”  And I tried arguing a bit that yes she’s right, he is, but not in the same way, etc.  But then, as I really allowed myself to stop and ponder what she was saying, I couldn’t argue.  And even now, as I type this story out and reflect on myself and the days that I live, I see that she is right.  In fact, this blog is a good example of that guy.  Sure, I’m not staging plays in the middle of a college campus anymore, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t have opportunities in my life to utilize my powerful voice and share the wisdom I have been given.  So why have I felt for these past few months like I’ve been asleep?  Like the true essence of me has been on some rock in Sedona meditating while my body and mind have been sleepwalking through the motions of my existence?  Well, I have an idea.  And this weekend’s Cancer new moon is the perfect time to address it.
